Man, it’s been a while since I’ve done one of these, but since it keeps coming up in conversations about my pilotverse, I feel I might as well say my piece on this subject so I can have something to link to.

As we know, in the Naruto canon, the Uchiha rivaled the Senju. Both clans were the descendants of Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki via his sons: the Uchiha from Indra and the Senju from Asura, with the former inheriting the Sage’s “eyes” and the latter inheriting the Sage’s “body”.

With the right handling, this could have been an epic backstory. But one question became a most persistent beggar:

What about the Hyūga?

:bulletred: in Chapter 78, during the match between Hinata and Neji, Kakashi mentions to Naruto and Sakura that in terms of insight, the Hyūga’s Byakugan surpasses the Uchiha’s Sharingan. Furthermore, Kakashi alludes to a rumor that the Uchiha’s origins lie with the Hyūga. Why was this rumor not substantiated/refuted in Part II?

Moreover, earlier in the same chapter, Kakashi claims that the Hyūga are Konoha’s oldest and greatest clan—which should really mean something coming from someone who owes a lot to an Uchiha and their bloodline! And yet, there is no sight or mention of them in the recollection of Konoha’s beginnings from Hashirama Senju, the First Hokage.

Had Black Zetsu taken on a life of his own?

:bulletred: the Rinnegan, which Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki possessed, is silvery with concentric circles. The Uchiha’s Sharingan could easily have been a mutation of the circles. So why couldn’t the Byakugan, the White Eye, have been a mutation of the silvery iris?

Furthermore, Kaguya, Hagoromo’s mother, possessed both the Sharingan AND the Byakugan. So why couldn’t Hagoromo’s Rinnegan have been a fusion of those eyes?

:bulletred: Hamura Ōtsutsuki. Canonically, he was the Hyūga ancestor, but more than that, he was Hagoromo’s brother AND helped him seal away Kaguya. In light of such a prestigious ancestry, why wasn’t said ancestry expanded upon in the actual series, especially considering that a certain Hyūga heiress became Naruto’s wife?

In light of this, I can only conclude that the Senju being the Uchiha’s rivals, as told canonically, was a tale told by Black Zetsu fused with Guruguru.

Ergo, it makes the most logical sense to me that in my pilotverse, the Hyūga, with their own supreme and ancient ocular bloodline, be the counterparts of the Uchiha, rather than the Senju.
Because this had to be said.
